Welcome to the St. Cletus Lenten Newsletter!
Below you will find schedules for special Masses, sacraments, and devotions, as well as information for many events. These are opportunities for us to turn our hearts to the Lord, receive God's grace, and focus on Jesus's sacrifice for us in this time of Lent.
Lent is a time for prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. Take a look all that is offered below so you can find a way to practice these things this Lenten season.

Stations of the Cross, Explained
In the earliest years of Christianity, the locations central to the story of Holy Week — the Garden of Gethsemane, Calvary, the Holy Sepulcher, and more — were destinations for pilgrims who wanted to experience Christ's sacrificial love for us in a physical way. In the years after the Crusades, pilgrimage to the Holy Land became impossible for most Christians, and the Stations of the Cross was popularized as a devotional means to pray through the passion and death of Christ.
Throughout history the number of stations has varied, with different traditions focusing on different events. In the 18th century, the number was officially fixed at 14 by Pope Clement XII. These stations are taken from the Gospel accounts of Christ’s passion and death, though there are several which are derived from tradition and apocryphal sources, such as the meeting of Mother and Son and St. Veronica wiping the face of Christ.

Interactive Stations of the Cross

Come journey through the Stations of the Cross by participating in a variety of reflections and interactive activities. These stations are appropriate for children and adults. We have these stations set up in our lower level in classroom #3 of the HMC main building.

Feed My Sheep: This Weekend

St. Cletus Pastorate is partnering with Kids Against Hunger to package 30,000 meals that will be sent to hungry people all over the world. This service project will be held at Holy Mother of Consolation in Oregon on Saturday, March 15: All 180 volunteer spots have been filled!

St. Ann: Spring Cleaning
March 21 from 5-8pm
March 22 from 10am-12pm
St. Ann's cleaning volunteers will be doing the annual Spring Cleaning of the church! We welcome fellow parishioners to join us for whatever amount of time they could spare - the more the merrier, and lighter and quicker the work!

Sacrament Prayer Partners
You are invited to pray for a child who is preparing to receive Jesus' body in the Eucharist for the first time or for a teen who is looking forward to receiving the fullness of the Holy Spirit in Confirmation this spring.
Come to any of our St. Cletus gathering spaces/vestibules this weekend to pick up a prayer card that includes an individual's name and prayer that you can use to ask God to bless our youth during this very special time in their lives as they take this monumental step on their faith journey!
HMC: Pretzel Sunday

Do you know this about Pretzels?
The Catholic Church played a major role in the history of pretzels!
Origins:
- European monks may have invented pretzels in the 6th or 7th century.
- The word pretzel may come from the Latin words bracellae or pretiola, which means "little arms" or “little rewards”.
Religious significance:
- The pretzel's knot-shape represents the Holy Trinity, with the three holes symbolizing the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
- The shape of the pretzel, with two arms crossed, represents prayer.
Lenten food:
- Pretzels were a popular food because they were made from simple ingredients that were permitted during Lent, a time when meat, dairy, and eggs were prohibited.
- Pretzels were eaten on Ash Wednesday and disappeared on Good Friday.
Feeding the poor:
- Pretzels were given to the poor as a way to provide spiritual and literal sustenance.

Video Series Study: No Greater Love
Every Lent our pastorate invites all to a video series rotating among the five churches. This year it is No Greater Love: A Biblical Walk through Christ's Passion by Edward Sri.
Jesus died and rose from the dead, that is the core of our faith. During Lent you can give yourself a core workout by coming to the series we are offering on

With Jesus to the Cross
These 6-week sessions hosted at HMC will follow the Sunday readings during Lent in With Jesus to the Cross (Year C) for a deeper understanding and sharing of our faith. All pastorate locations are welcome. Four options are available. All are held in the Rasmussen Room:
- Saturdays: 3:00 - 4:00pm (before Mass)
Starts March 8 and ends April 12 - Mondays: 9:30 - 10:45am (Rosary at 9:00)
Starts March 3 and ends April 7 - Thursdays: 1:00 - 2:30pm

The Living Last Supper

Jesus gave us his Body and Blood for the first time on Holy Thursday, the Last Supper: the First Eucharist. Come to the Living Last Supper on Palm Sunday. This is a simple and prayerful performance by parishioners of the Last Supper. Be inspired by what Jesus has done for you. Take a step out in faith and invite someone to come with you.

Divine Mercy Novena
Join us in saying the Divine Mercy Novena!

every day from April 18-26 at 3pm
The Divine Mercy novena prayers were given to St. Faustina through an apparition of our Lord Jesus on Good Friday, 1937.
"I desire that during these nine days, you bring souls to the fountain of My mercy, that they may draw there strength and refreshment and whatever grace they have need of in the hardships of life, and especially at the hour of death" (Diary of St. Faustina, 1209).
Please join us in praying the Divine Mercy Novena at St. Ann's every day following Good Friday service through Saturday, April 26.
